STANFORD, Calif. – Posting its second consecutive 9-2 start under Anne and Tony Joseph Director of Men’s Basketball Kyle Smith, Stanford rolled to a 76-60 victory over UT Arlington at Maples Pavilion.
Chisom Okpara and Benny Gealer scored 17 points apiece, the latter a season-high mark. Gealer added three rebounds and three steals while Okpara pitched in three rebounds and three assists, and both players made seven shots at the free throw line. AJ Rohosy was in double figures for the second consecutive game, finishing with 13 points, while Jeremy Dent-Smith had 10 and Ryan Agarwal nine.
The first matchup in program history, the Cardinal held the Mavericks (7-4) to just 60 points, a season-low for the Stanford defense, while winning the battle of the rebounds by nine and outscoring them on the fast break, 19-3.
Stanford raced out to an early double-digit advantage, 14-4, led by nine early points from Gealer. The Cardinal withstood a Mavericks run to pull within six, 25-19, with 5:58 to play in the half, and it ended the first period on a 15-6 run to lead by 15 at the half, 40-25.
Leading by double figures for the duration of the second half, Stanford got nine points from Okpara and seven apiece from Rohosy and Agarwal over the final 20 minutes. The Cardinal went 12-for-15 from the free throw line in the half to seal the result.
The Cardinal returns to action with its third neutral site battle of the season, taking on Colorado on Saturday, Dec. 20 at PHX Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. The tip is set for 5 p.m. PT on ESPNU.
