Men’s Basketball Falls Late to UNLV, 75-74

Stanford moves to 7-2 on the season with the result.

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men’s basketball suffered its second setback on the season, falling to visiting UNLV, 75-74, at Maples Pavilion. Stanford drops to 7-2 on the season with the result.

Ebuka Okorie led the Cardinal with 18 points to go with five rebounds and two steals, while Ryan Agarwal pitched in a season high 13 points and Benny Gealer had 11, with both players making a trio of 3-pointers.

Oskar Giltay scored nine points with a career-best 14 rebounds, becoming the first Stanford freshman to secure at least 14 rebounds since Oscar da Silva had 17 against Eastern Washington on Nov. 14, 2017 vs. Eastern Washington. Giltay’s nine offensive rebounds are tied for the most in the country by any freshman this season, along with Fairfield’s Declan Wucherpfennig. Giltay also added two steals and two blocks on the defensive end.

Stanford led by one at the half, 39-38, and led by as many as nine points in the first period, coming with 6:25 to go, 31-22. UNLV (4-5) closed the half on a 16-8 run to pull within one entering the intermission.

The second half featured nine lead changes and eight ties, with neither team holding a lead of more than four points. Okorie gave Stanford a 73-72 lead with 49 seconds to go after scoring inside, plus a foul, but UNLV scored the game-winning free throw at the line with 3.8 seconds to play.

Stanford returns to the court with its first road contest of the year, traveling to San Jose State on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 4 p.m. The action will air on CBS Sports Network.
