Cardinal Drops National Championship Match

Florida State defeated Stanford 1-0 to win the 2025 national title

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Wrianna Hudson’s goal in the 87th minute proved to be the difference on Monday night as No. 6 Florida State defeated No. 1 Stanford to win the 2025 women’s soccer national championship from CPKC Stadium.

The Cardinal, which has made three straight trips to the College Cup, finishes as the national runner-up for the second time in three seasons after previously falling to Florida State in 2023.

Stanford controlled much of the match, but was unable to finish its chances en route to posting an 18-8 advantage in shots – including a 9-3 tally in shots on frame. Stanford’s best opportunities came in the first half where it managed an 11-4 advantage in shots and forced Florida State goalkeeper Kate Ockene into seven saves. Ockene was stellar for the Seminoles, making nine saves overall to record the clean sheet.

Hudson’s goal came on a scramble following FSU’s fourth corner kick of the night. The Cardinal tried to clear its lines, but the Seminoles managed to keep the ball in the attacking area and found Taylor Suarez on the right side of the box. Suarez played her cross back through the area where it was deflected by a Cardinal defender, but ultimately punched in by Hudson.

Following the conclusion of the match, Jasmine Aikey, Shae Harvey and Y-Lan Nguyen were named to the College Cup All-Tournament team.

Stanford, the 2025 ACC regular-season and conference tournament champions, finishes the year with a 21-2-2 overall record, while Florida State closes the year at 16-2-4.
