NORMAN, Okla. – No. 9 Stanford suffered its first loss of the season at ITA Kickoff Weekend in Norman on Sunday, falling to host and No. 6 Oklahoma 4-1.
The Cardinal dropped the doubles point on courts one and three, losing both of those matches 6-2.
Emma Sun and Caroline Driscoll were beaten on singles courts six and three to put Stanford in a 3-0 hole.
Monika Ekstrand, who has clinched both of Stanford’s wins thus far, picked up a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Evialina Laskevich at the top spot.
But the clincher came on court two in the only ranked matchup of the afternoon. Oklahoma’s No. 24 Julia Garcia Ruiz beat Stanford’s No. 19 Alyssa Ahn 6-3, 6-4 to end it.
Stanford returns home to host former Pac-12 foes USC and UCLA next weekend. The Trojans are in town on Friday at 1:30 p.m., before the Bruins visit on Saturday at 3 p.m.
