Hong Highlights Weekly Winners

STANFORD, Calif. - Two Cardinal gymnasts earned weekly award honors following Stanford's home-opening victories over No. 6 Ohio State and No. 7 California on Saturday.

Asher Hong earned both the MPSF and CGA Gymnast of the Week honors after making his return to collegiate competition at the Stanford Open this past weekend. Hong impressed with a pair of event victories, including an NCAA-leading 80.300 all-around effort.

Hong claimed an event title with a 14.450 still rings routine, and added a runner-up finish on parallel bars (14.050) and a third-place effort on vault (14.400). Stanford has now won the conference's Gymnast of the Week honor three consecutive times, as Hong follows Kuebler on Jan. 13 and David Shamah on Jan. 20.

Meanwhile, Kuebler earned his third consecutive MPSF weekly honor, getting the conference's Specialist of the Week nod for the second-straight week. Kuebler turned in a career-best 14.600 on high bar and a 13.950 routine on floor exercise to win his team-best fourth and fifth event titles of the season. The senior also stuck a 14.000 still rings routine, securing a top-two finish in each of his three events.

Stanford will take a one-week hiatus before heading north of the border on Feb. 6 to compete against Team Canada in the Elite Canada event.
