STANFORD, Calif. – No. 11 Stanford was unable to complete the comeback in a 4-3 defeat against No. 20 USC on Friday afternoon.
The Trojans won doubles and then picked up a win at No. 4 singles to go up 2-0.
Freshman Monika Ekstrand got the Cardinal its first point with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 1, beating No. 16 Jana Hossam. Now a perfect 4-0 in duals this spring, Hossam is the highest-ranked opponent Ekstrand has defeated in her young career.
Stanford evened the dual with a win from Sein Myoung at No. 5. Myoung beat No. 74 Krisha Mahendran 6-2, 6-2 to pick up her first ranked victory with the Cardinal.
The Trojans went ahead with a win on court six before another of Stanford’s top-ranked recruiting class came through. Freshman Alyssa Ahn beat No. 12 Emma Charney 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-1 to even the match 3-3.
On court three, Caroline Driscoll dropped a three-setter against No. 95 Immi Haddad, which decided it for USC.
The Cardinal is back in action tomorrow at 3 p.m. when it hosts No. 17 UCLA at Arrillaga Tennis Center-Taube Pavilion.
