New Batch of Top 10 Times

Stanford completed an action-packed weekend in Albuquerque and Boston

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford track & field completed an action-packed weekend on opposite coasts, competing at both the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston and the New Mexico Team Open in Albuquerque.

The distance runners produced a strong showing in Beantown, highlighted by a new batch of Stanford Indoor Top 10 marks and multiple personal-best times.

James Dargan led the charge as the lone event winner on the weekend, breaking the four-minute barrier for the first time in his career to win the men's mile with a 3:58.35. Leo Young followed that performance with a 3:57.81 in the invitational mile, a new all-conditions best for the junior.

Young climbs to sixth in program history in the men's indoor mile after his latest performance, while Dargan broke into the Stanford Top 10 for the first time in his career, ranking 7th.

On the women's side, Juliette Whittaker nearly eclipsed her personal best in the mile invitational with the top collegiate time in field, clocking a 4:30.97 to finish ninth overall. That momentum continued to the 3000m invitational, where Sophia Kennedy finished fourth with an 8:49.23, second among collegiate competitors.

Other notable performances included a runner-up effort from Amelia Everrett in the 800m with a 2:09.35, while Julia Flynn (4:41.23) and Hillary Studdert (4:44.98) posted new personal bests in the mile.

Meanwhile, in New Mexico, several Stanford sprinters turned in notable performances, while the Cardinal also recorded the first relay Top 10 time of the season.

The men's 200 meters featured a pair of Cardinal sprinters moving into the Stanford Indoor Top 10, with Zachary Ryan finishing third with a 21.33, followed by Gabriel Ajaeg in tenth with a 21.58. Ryan and Ajaegbu now rank 6th and 10th in program history, respectively.

In the women's sprints, Alaysia Oakes opened the weekend by clocking a PB-7.42 in the 60m prelims before ultimately finishing second in the event final. Hannah Rutherford and Cate Peters both added personal bests in the women's 200m, with Rutherford adding another new lifetime best in the 400m later in the meet.

Stanford closed out the meet in the men's 4x400m relay, where the quartet of Ryan, Ryce Reynolds, Joseph Bailey, and Ajaegbu combined to run a 3:11.66, the 10th-fastest indoor time in program history.

The Cardinal will be back in action with its third consecutive meet in Albuquerque next weekend, competing in the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Feb. 6-7.
