IRVINE, Calif. – No. 1 Stanford controlled play early and tightened defensively late, outlasting No. 2 UCLA 8-7 in the final on Sunday at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.
Stanford (6-0, 0-0 MPSF) secured its fourth tournament title in five seasons and eighth in school history (2026, 2025, 2023, 2022, 2018, 2011, 2009, 2007).
The Cardinal led 3-1 after the first period and 6-4 at halftime before holding on over the final two periods, winning its fourth straight against UCLA (9-1, 0-0 MPSF).
Jenna Flynn sparked the Cardinal early on, completing a hat trick by the midway point of the second quarter.
Juliette Dhalluin contributed two goals and three assists. Dhalluin’s first score came on a penalty shot with 27 seconds left before halftime while her second stabilized the Cardinal midway through the third quarter after the Bruins made a charge.
Claire Minton’s goal with 1:12 on the clock in the first period put Stanford in front 3-1.
Flynn followed with back-to-back goals to achieve her hat trick, giving the Cardinal its largest lead at 5-1 with 5:33 remaining before intermission.
Lucy Haaland-Ford found the net to close out the third period and keep Stanford ahead 8-6.
The Cardinal was held scoreless in the final quarter but limited the Bruins to a 4-of-15 clip on the power play.
Christine Carpenter played the entire game and finished with eight saves.
Stanford returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 21, hosting Arizona State in its MPSF opener at Avery Aquatic Center.
