Stanford Stings Georgia Tech

Cardinal sweeps No. 59 Yellow Jackets 4-0

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford started off its conference slate with a 4-0 sweep of No. 59 Georgia Tech on Friday afternoon.

In doubles, the freshman duo of Alyssa Ahn and Tianmei Wang cruised to a 6-0 victory over Eleni Karantali and Given Roach on court two. Georgia Tech won on court three and was ahead 5-4, 40-15 before Caroline Driscoll and Monika Ekstrand rallied and staved off multiple match points to swing momentum to their side. The pair pulled out a 7-5 victory on court one over No. 52 Alejandra Cruz and Seri Nayuki for their first ranked victory of the year.

Singles wasn’t as dramatic with Ahn storming through her match on court two 6-1, 6-0. Tianmei Wang was a 6-3, 6-0 winner on court four and Ekstrand clinched it with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the top spot over No. 50 Alejandra Cruz.

Ekstrand, the reigning ACC Co-Freshman of the Week, is now 7-1 in duals this spring and has clinched four of Stanford’s five wins this season.

The Cardinal (5-3, 1-0 ACC) is next in action when it hosts No. 21 Clemson tomorrow at noon.
