Tigers Take Down Stanford

No. 18 Cardinal falls to No. 21 Clemson 4-2

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 18 Stanford dropped its first ACC match of the season on Saturday afternoon, losing to visiting and No. 21 Clemson 4-2.

The Tigers won doubles with victories on courts two and three. But one day after picking up their first ranked victory of the season, Caroline Driscoll and Monika Ekstrand did it again on court one, this time beating the No. 26-ranked pair of Jade Groen and Rinon Okuwaki 6-3.

Clemson won the first two singles matches on courts six and three to go in front 3-0, before Stanford’s freshmen won on the top to courts to make it 3-2. Monika Ekstrand continued her hot start with a 6-1, 6-4 win on the top court to move to 8-1 in duals. Alyssa Ahn was a winner in three sets on court two 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

The Tigers clinched on court four with a three-set win from Talia Neilson-Gatenby over Tianmei Wang 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Stanford remains home to host Wake Forest and No. 27 NC State on Friday and Saturday.
