Stanford Ends Skid, Beats Florida State 77-61

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Nunu Agara scored 22, Courtney Ogden 21 and Stanford snapped a four-game losing skid with a 77-61 win at Florida State on Sunday afternoon.

Agara led all scorers with 22 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, her sixth double-double of the season. Ogden had 21 points, five rebounds and a game-high six assists, while Lara Somfai scored 15 and Chloe Clardy chipped in 12 off the bench.

It was a dominant first half for the Cardinal, which led 41-22 at the break. Stanford shot 56.7 percent in the first 20 minutes and really took control with an 11-0 run in the second quarter that turned a five-point lead into a 34-18 cushion. Agara started the spurt with a 3-point play, Ogden hit a pair of jumpers, Clardy sank a layup and Shay Ijiwoye ended it with a steal and fastbreak lay in.

The lead grew as large as 23 when Somfai hit a 3-pointer off a feed from Agara with 9:07 on the clock in the third. Florida State answered with an 8-0 run and closed the quarter with an 11-3 run to pull within 11 with 10 minutes to go.

Florida State got it to eight midway through the fourth on a pair of Jasmine Shavers free throws after a steal, but Stanford’s juniors ended it over the next two minutes. Agara had another tough finish, was fouled and hit the free throw, Ogden hit a midrange jumper and Clardy nailed a 3-pointer to finish an 8-0 run and put the Cardinal up 16 with 2:35 left, 71-55.

With the win, Stanford (17-12, 6-10 ACC) clinched a berth in the Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament in two weeks in Duluth, Ga.

Stanford shot 47.6 percent for the game, 34.8 percent from deep, and had 16 assists on its 30 made baskets.

The Cardinal returns home for its final two games of the regular season, beginning with SMU on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
