STANFORD, Calif. - After a successful Winter Cup for Stanford men's gymnastics, two Cardinal gymnasts earned weekly award honors.
David Shamah was tabbed as the MPSF's Gymnast of the Week, while Jun Iwai earned both conference and national Freshman of the Week honors.
Shamah earned his first USA Senior National Team spot in Louisville this weekend, claiming all-around bronze with a 79.608 effort. Shamah posted the second-highest parallel bars score in the meet with a 14.808, while also adding a ninth-place effort on high bar with a 13.050 score.
Jun Iwai collected his first career weekly honors after finishing seventh in the all-around standings with a 76.705. Iwai's weekend included a third-place vault with a 14.100, along with a 13.550 high bar to finish fourth, earning himself a Senior Development Team selection following the meet.
Stanford returns to collegiate competition next weekend, as they host the Stanford International Collegiate on Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. PT inside Burnham Pavilion.
