- Stanford plays twice next week, hosting Sacramento State on Monday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. and traveling to UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Feb. 14 at noon.
- The Cardinal is 8-0 all-time against the Hornets, its last meeting a 5-0 victory on Feb. 8, 2017. Stanford is 19-1 all-time against the Gauchos and has won two straight, including 5-2 last season on The Farm. The Cardinal’s only loss in the series came on March 22, 2022, 4-3.
- Following a 2-0 start to its dual season, Stanford has lost three in a row, all to ranked opponents in No. 6 Oklahoma (4-1), No. 20 USC (4-3) and No. 17 UCLA (7-0).
- It’s only the second time since 1982 the Cardinal has lost three straight. It also happened from April 2-9, 2021 against No. 7 Pepperdine (4-3), No. 46 Oregon (4-3) and No. 9 UCLA (7-0).
- Stanford is No. 11 in the ITA coaches' poll released on January 28 and has four players in the singles rankings from Feb. 4 in Valerie Glozman (#5), Alyssa Ahn (#17), Monika Ekstrand (#44) and Caroline Driscoll (#113).
- Ahn is the highest-ranked freshman in the country.
- Another freshman, Ekstrand has clinched both of Stanford’s victories this season on the top court.
- Tianmei Wang was named ACC Freshman of the Week on Jan. 20 after a week in which she went 3-0 in singles, including a 6-3, 6-0 win over Cal’s 63rd-ranked Naomi Xu.
- Stanford's fall was highlighted by Glozman capping an incredible start to her sophomore season by winning the ITA Women’s All-American singles title in late September, beating Carmen Herea of Texas in the final, 6-2, 6-3.
- She became the first champion from Stanford since Hilary Bartein 2010 and the fourth all-time, joining Patty Fendick (1987), Sandra Birch (1989, 1990) and Barte.
- Her victory also edged the Cardinal in front of Florida for the most ITA All-American women’s singles titles of all time with five.
- Freshman Alyssa Ahnburst onto the scene in her second tournament for Stanford, winning the ITA Northwest Regional Championships singles title in mid-October with a 6-0, 6-1 throttling California’s Naomi Xu.
- Ahn became the second consecutive freshman winner of the tournament for the Cardinal, following Valerie Glozmanin 2024. Stanford has now produced the tournament singles champion in 13 of the last 15 years.
- Both Glozman and Ahn qualified for the NCAA Single Championship in Orlando in November with Glozman the event’s No. 1 seed. Her win at All-Americans also secured the sophomore All-America status.
- Ahn, along with Monika Ekstrand and Tianmei Wang comprise the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class. All three are blue-chip recruits according to the Tennis Recruiting Network.
- It was a strong summer for the Cardinal, highlighted by Stanford participation at the US Open.
- Glozman and Ahn both earned main draw wild cards, Glozman by winning the women's singles title at the American Collegiate Wild Card Playoffs in June and Ahn by winning the singles title at the USTA Billie Jean King Girls’ 18s National Championships.
- Ekstrand received a women's qualifying draw wild card, while Wang received a wild card into the girls' singles main draw.
- Stanford is in its second season under head coach Frankie Brennan. Last year, the Cardinal put together a 17-9 record, making its 43rd consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and its 42nd trip to the Round of 16.
- Since joining the staff in 1996, Brennan has enhanced Stanford's reputation as the country's top program by helping guide the Cardinal to a 719-83 overall record, 12 NCAA championships, 21 conference regular-season titles and six conference tournament crowns. During his tenure, Brennan has mentored 39 All-Americans.
