STANFORD, Calif. – Nunu Agara had 24-points and 10 rebounds, Hailee Swain scored a career-high 20 and Stanford ended its regular season with an 85-50 rout of Clemson on Sunday.
Clemson, which came in leading the ACC in scoring defense allowing just 58 points per game, couldn’t stop the Cardinal. Stanford shot 55.7 percent (34-of-61) to total its 85 points, a season-high in points allowed by the Tigers. Stanford matched its season high with 21 assists and gave up only nine turnovers, its sixth this season in single digits. It had just two turnovers until the fourth quarter.
Among several extended runs, it was an 18-0 stretch in the third quarter for Stanford that really put the game to rest. Over 5:32, Stanford turned a 55-32 lead into a 73-32 lead to go up by a game-high 41 with 3:15 to go in the third. Stanford made seven of its nine shots during the run, which included six points from Agara, five from Alexandra Eschmeyer, four from Swain and three from Courtney Ogden.
Stanford outscored Clemson 14-1 in points off turnovers and 46-20 in the paint. The Cardinal was clinical in close, going 17-of-20 on layups.
Agara’s double-double was her seventh of the season and 16th of her career. Swain put together the first 20-point performance for a Stanford freshman since Cameron Brink had 24 in the semifinals of the Pac-12 Tournament against Oregon State on March 5, 2021. This weekend, the freshman averaged 17.0 points in Stanford’s two wins and shot 14-of-21 (.667) from the floor.
Courtney Ogden had 15 points, six rebounds and four assists and Lara Somfai filled up the stat sheet with 11 points, nine rebounds and a game-high six assists.
With a few games still to finish, it’s looking like Stanford will head to the ACC Tournament as the 13-seed and face 12-seed Miami in the first round on Wednesday, March 4 at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET.
