Cardinal Drops Game Two to the Irish

Kern homers in 8-4 loss

STANFORD, Calif. – The Cardinal dropped game two of a three-game ACC series this afternoon, falling 8-4 to Notre Dame. No. 19 Stanford slugged eight hits, four for extra bases, but finished with nine runners left on base to move to 15-7 on the season and 5-3 in ACC play.

Stanford struck first, scoring in the first inning to go ahead 1-0. Emily Jones tripled, after going 3-for-3 in last night’s game. Kyra Chan promptly brought her in on an RBI single to open the scoring.

Notre Dame scored three runs in the second and third innings, with a Taryn Kern solo homer in between. Kern’s home run, her seventh of the season and 33rd of her career, moves her out of a tie and into sole possession of the sixth-most in a career in program history.

Notre Dame scored two more in the fifth to make it an 8-2 lead. The Card scored on an RBI fielder’s choice by Addyson Sheppard in the sixth, then Kern scored an unearned run in the seventh to cut the final score to 8-4.

The Card closes out the series tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m. PT. The game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra, and tickets are available at Tickets.GoStanford.com.
