CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After another highly productive week, led by wins over Pittsburgh and SMU, Stanford guard Ebuka Okorie has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week. The award is the third of the year for Okorie, which ranks second in the conference this season.
Okorie scored 34 points with six assists and six rebounds against Pittsburgh, marking his ACC-leading sixth game this season with at least 30 points and his nation-leading 13th game with at least 25 points. 28 of Okorie’s points came in the second half, and he scored or assisted on 37 of the final 43 in the game.
Continuing to shine against SMU, Okorie finished with 22 points, six assists and two steals, against only one turnover. The freshman passed Adam Keefe for 13th on Stanford’s single-season scoring list, with 614, becoming the 13th player in Stanford history to reach 600 points in a season. He also passed Todd Lichti, Randle, and Keith Jones for sixth on Stanford’s single-season free throws list, with 175.
Okorie enters the final week of the regular season as the ACC’s scoring leader, both overall and in conference play, and he ranks fifth nationally with 22.7 points per game.
The Cardinal caps its regular season with its final two-game road trip, beginning at Notre Dame on Wednesday, March 4 at 6 p.m. PT. The contest will be broadcast on ESPNU.
