Cardinal 4-2 Winners at 'Cuse

Cardinal begins 10-day conference road swing with victory in New York

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 33 Stanford started its extended ACC road trip with a 4-2 win at Syracuse on Friday afternoon.

The Cardinal, beginning a 10-day conference swing through Syracuse, Boston College, Notre Dame and Louisville, snapped a two-match losing streak and picked up its first victory since Feb. 27 against Wake Forest.

Freshman Monika Ekstrand clinched for the fifth time this season on the top court with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Anastasia Sysoeva. She is 9-1 in duals and has won five straight.

Tianmei Wang, another freshman, started Stanford singles off with a win on court four over Leena Bennetto 6-2, 6-1, while Sein Myoung snapped a two-match losing streak on court five in beating Haram Kim 7-5, 6-0.

All three doubles matches finished and were won by the Cardinal. Sophomore Valerie Glozman, the nation’s No. 10-ranked singles player, made her spring debut on court three with Sein Myoung, beating Emma Scaldalai and Anastasia Sysoeva 7-5.

Stanford plays next at Boston College on Sunday, March 22 at 7 a.m. PT.
