STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 9-ranked Stanford men’s rowing team competes in its second weekend of racing this season at the Sarasota 2K in Florida.
Stanford will face No. 1 Washington and No. 3 Harvard in a double-dual regatta on Friday, with the Cardinal competing in three race categories (first, second, and third varsity eights). The following day, those same three Stanford crews will race in the Sarasota 2K for the Benderson Cup against Washington, Harvard, No. 6 Brown, No. 7 Northeastern and No. 10 Yale.
On Friday, the Stanford and Washington 1V8 teams will race for the Andrea and Everett Peter Paup Cup. The trophy is named for former UW and Stanford coxswain Everett "Pete" Paup, a U.S. Marine veteran who finished second in the coxed pair at the 1956 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Paup supported both programs during his lifetime and passed away in December 2024.
On Saturday, a weighted points system in the first, second and third varsity eights will determine the winner of the Nathan Benderson Cup. The winning crew in the V8+ race will receive 18 points, with three points fewer to each place after (18-15-12-9-6-3). The 2V8+ winner will get 12 points with each place after getting two fewer (12-10-8-6-4-2), while the 3V8+ victor will be awarded 6 points (6-5-4-3-2-1).
