BLACKSBURG, Va. — Mallory Hasselbeck’s career-high seven points and a 45-minute shutout streak highlighted a milestone afternoon for the Stanford women’s lacrosse team as it wrapped up its two game road trip in the Commonwealth of Virginia, dispatching Virginia Tech on Tuesday, 16-6. With the win, Stanford continues its perfect start to the season, a perfect 4-0 mark to begin Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) action, and earns Paul A Violich Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach Danielle Spencer her 100th career win.
Hasselbeck got the scoring started for Stanford (7-0, 4-0 ACC), answering an early tally from the hosts with her first of four on the afternoon, capitalizing from the eight-meter hash. Ava Arceri gave Stanford its first lead of the afternoon just over a minute later on an unassisted tally - her first of three on the day. Though Virginia Tech stormed back with two goals nearing the midway mark of the frame, Hasselbeck brought the Cardinal level late in the frame with her second, finishing off a feed from Jordyn Case as the sides went into the first quarter break tied, 3-3.

Hasselbeck’s late-period tally ushered in an eventual twelve goal run for the Cardinal to put the game out of reach as eight different Cardinal recorded a goal during the stretch. Martha Oakey snagged the first of the frame before Hasselbeck grabbed her final two goals of the day, scoring in consecutive fashion to put the Cardinal up 6-3 as the Cardinal took the lead into the halftime break.

Coming out of the half, Stanford made the most of its offensive opportunities with Arceri tallying a woman-up goal before Annabel Frist finished a feed from Aliya Polisky to open a five-goal lead. Stanford continued to roll with Hasselbeck playing distributor as Hasselbeck found Lexi Rodell for her first of the afternoon to continue the onslaught. Stanford rolled with Lindsey Devir, Rylee Bouvier, Jordyn Case and Oakey finding twine to put Stanford ahead 14-3 through three quarters while Hasselbeck’s feed on Bouvier’s late period tally gave her a career-high seven points on the day.

Though Virginia Tech bookended the scoring in the final frame, Stanford wrapped up the scoring frenzy midway through the final quarter as Polisky netted her first of the day - and 21st goal of the season - before Arceri snagged the hat trick tally two minutes later to close out the scoring for the Cardinal.
Defensively, the Cardinal put in another shift, limiting Virginia Tech to six goals marking the fourth time in the last five games that Stanford has limited the opposition to six goals or less. The Cardinal caused 11 of the Hokies’ 16 turnovers on the afternoon led by Rylee Bouvier’s three on the day. Kate Bellissimo had a team high four ground balls as the Stanford defense earned 45:41 of shutout action over the course of the game while going 6-for-9 on free position defense.
