Three First-Place Finishes at Western Regionals

Sun, Chin and Wang all top respective weapon groups

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Stanford fencing saw three first-place finishes today, with Ruoxi Sun (women’s foil), Sophia Chin (women’s saber) and Robert Wang (men’s saber) all finishing first at NCAA Western Regionals. Eight Card fencers finished in the top three.

The Cardinal women opened the day with a dominant showing. Ruoxi Sun went 10-2 to finish first in women’s foil, and Sophia Chin went 9-2 to finish first in the women’s saber. Chin wasn’t alone on the podium for women’s saber, as Erika Yong finished second and Grace Ker finished third.

Ishani Sood finished second in women’s foil, going 10-2. Tanishka Padhye went 7-3 in the women’s epee competition, finishing second in the weapon.

Robert Wang took first on the men’s side, going 8-3 in saber competition. The trio of Julian Goor, Sanjay Kasi and Renzo Fukuda all went 9-4 to finish third through fifth in men’s foil.

Next up for the Cardinal is the NCAA Championships, which will run from March 19-22 in South Bend, Indiana. Selections for the final site will be announced on Tuesday, March 10.
