MALIBU, Calif. – Moses Wagner recorded a team-high 13 kills, but No. 14 Stanford fell at No. 5 Pepperdine, 17-25, 25-23, 19-25, 21-25, Saturday, at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Stanford (9-14, 6-6 MPSF) hit .206 as a team and held a 5.0 to 4.5 edge in blocks. Pepperdine (20-5, 11-1 MPSF) turned in a .390 attack percentage, racking up 51 kills and nine aces.
Wagner’s 13 kills came on .214 hitting. The opposite also registered four digs, two blocks and two assists. Middle blocker Luke McFall added eight kills, four blocks and two aces.
Freshman Jacob Little-Phillips was back in the starting lineup at setter. The Winter Park, Florida native totaled 33 assists, five digs and a kill. Sophomore libero Evan Porter collected eight digs.
Outside hitters David Wolff and Alex Rottman combined for 13 kills, nine digs, three blocks and an ace. Sophomore Reed Wainwright earned the start at middle blocker, totaling five kills on .500 hitting, two aces and a block.
Senior Ryan DuRoss appeared in three sets, going 2-for-2 offensively with three digs. Senior Theoren Brouillette also played in three sets, posting four assists and an ace.
Pepperdine was led by sophomore Cole Hartke who had a match-best 19 kills on .429 hitting, five digs, two aces and a block. Jose Gomez chipped in with 10 kills, seven digs and four aces.
Stanford closes out its five-match road swing at Menlo College on Friday. The Cardinal will return to Maples Pavilion on Saturday, April 18 for Senior Night against the Oaks.
