STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford picked up a second-consecutive ACC sweep this afternoon, beating NCA State 3-1 to move to 30-12 on the year and 15-6 in conference play. The No. 20 Cardinal finishes the weekend on an eight-game winning streak, holding opponents to two runs or less in five of the eight consecutive wins.
Stanford kicked off the scoring in the second inning, striking for three runs. With two outs, Taryn Kern singled to bring in Sophia Jin, running for Joie Economides who led off the inning with a single. Emily Jones brought in Kern, as well as Addyson Sheppard, in the next at-bat with a two-run double to make it a 3-0 Cardinal lead.
The Wolfpack struck for a lone run in the top of the fourth to make it a 3-1 game. Anna Brewer was responsible for the run, finishing the day with three innings pitched and allowing just the one run on three hits. Brewer gave way to Alyssa Houston, who walked three in 1.1 hitless innings to keep the Cardinal in front.
Zoe Prystajko stepped into the circle for Stanford in the fifth, entering the game with two runners on and one out. Prystajko got out of the inning with a fielder’s choice and a fly out to hold onto the 3-1 advantage.
Prystajko was perfect in the sixth, and entered the seventh still with a 3-1 lead. NC State threatened in the final inning, with the leadoff batter reaching third on a throwing error by Prystajko. The sophomore answered back with three-straight outs to take the win, finishing with 2.2 hitless innings.
