Lights Post Season-Best Times at Big Ten Invite

Stanford was the only lightweight team in attendance

GOLD RIVER, Calif. – Starting to hit its stride as the spring slate continues, No. 7 Stanford lightweight rowing posted its best times of the year at the Big Ten Invite, held at the Sacramento State Athletics Complex.

The Cardinal varsity eight competed twice on Saturday, once apiece in the morning and afternoon sessions, with Stanford winning each of its heats. Competing against openweight third varsities, Stanford rowed to a season-best time of 6:33.516 to top teams from California, Michigan, USC and Iowa. In the evening session, the Cardinal rowed to first place in its heat once again, crossing the line ahead of Rutgers, Indiana and Iowa in a time of 6:42.395.

The Cardinal also raced three times in the varsity four, including a season-best time of 7:24.042 on Sunday morning. The Sunday V4+ finished second in its heat, trailing only the third varsity openweight program at Washington and ahead of teams from Rutgers, California and Michigan. The Cardinal competed twice on Saturday morning, taking fifth in a 2V4 flight with a time of 7:45.247 and fourth in a 3V4 flight with a time of 7:48.293.
