Card Drops Bout with No. 21 Washington

Stanford slugs five extra-base hits in 6-3 loss

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 24 Stanford fell to 20-11 on the season with a 6-3 loss this evening, falling to No. 21 Washington at Stanford Softball Stadium. Five of the Card’s six hits went for extra bases, including triples from Kyra Chan and River Mahler.

Washington opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the first, striking for a double and three singles in the frame. The first run was unearned, with the runner awarded home plate after an obstruction call at third base.

Stanford quickly answered in the bottom of the first. Chan belted a two-out triple, then raced home when the throw to third went past the bag. The unearned run cut the lead in half, and the Card would tie it in the next inning.

Again the damage came with two outs, this time from Addyson Sheppard. The freshman smacked her sixth home run of the season over the left field fence, tying the game at 2-2 with the solo shot.

Washington added two more in the third to go ahead 4-2, including a second unearned run coming from obstruction at home plate.

The Cardinal’s response came in the fourth, when Ava Gall doubled to score Mahler and make it 4-3. A two-run homer for the Huskies in the fifth made it a 6-3 final.

Stanford is back in action tomorrow, hosting Saint Mary’s at 5:00 p.m. PT. Tickets are available at Tickets.GoStanford.com, and the game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
