AUGUSTA, Ga. — After 36 holes of golf at the 2026 Augusta National Women’s Amateur, three Stanford golfers are advancing to Saturday’s final round. Led by Meja Örtengren, the Cardinal has two in the top four and all three in the top 15 of what became a crowded leaderboard.
One of the biggest stories of the second round was the performance by Örtengren. The sophomore from Sweden shot a 5-under 67 on Wednesday and matched that on Thursday, taking the solo clubhouse lead when she finished her second round with a 134 (-10). Much like her opening round, she had just one bogey in the round, and was 6-under through 11, including an eagle on the par-5 third hole. She dominated holes 1-9 at Champions Retreat this week, scoring 9-under across those holes.
When Örtengren finished the round, she held the solo lead over 17-year-old Asterisk Talley. That lead went away as Talley finished the day 5-under as well, but has a 133 across two rounds, taking a one-stroke lead over Örtengren and Maria Jose Marin, who also finished after Örtengren. Still, her 134 is tied for the third-lowest first 36 at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur in its history. Rose Zhang set the record in 2023 (131).
Örtengren has never finished better than 12th in the event, but she would have to drop five strokes just to fall outside of the top three in 2026.
After beginning the day, Andrea Revuelta began just one stroke back of the lead. She finished with an even-72 on Thursday, after a bogey on 13 and a double-bogey on 16 dropped her score. Still, it puts Revuelta in a tie for fourth overall, where she finished in 2025, but 14 other golfers are within two strokes of Revuelta.
With Örtengren and Revuelta near the top of the field, could a six-year ANWA tradition continue? The eventual winner of this prestigious event has been inside the top six heading into the final round during every Augusta National Women’s Amateur. That would bode well for the two Stanford sophomores.
Paula Martín Sampedro made the cut the third time in three appearances at Augusta. Her 36-hole tally of 140 (-3) is the lowest she has shot at Champions Retreat, putting her in a tie for 14th overall. She was particularly strong around her turn, as she birdied on holes seven, nine, and ten to vault herself above the cut line. Her 3-under 69 on Thursday is tied for the fourth-best round of the day, trailing Örtengren, Talley, and Yunseo Yang.
All golfers in the field will have a practice round at Augusta National on Friday, April 3, before the 32-golfer field takes part in the final round on Saturday, April 4. NBC Sports and Peacock will have live coverage of the final round from 9-12 p.m. PT.
