STANFORD, Calif. – A pair of Cardinal freshman received All-ACC recognition when the league announced its postseason honors on Thursday morning. Monika Ekstrand was voted to the six-person All-ACC Singles First Team and Alyssa Ahn landed on the All-ACC Singles Third Team.
Six total freshmen were among the 19 honored on All-ACC singles teams and Stanford is the only school with multiple.
Ekstrand was a back-to-back ACC Co-Freshman of the Week on Feb. 17 and 24. She leads the team with six clinchers and has eight victories over ranked opponents (including fall). Ekstrand is a 6-2 against ranked opponents in duals and is 14-5 overall during the dual season, all at the No. 1 spot. Ranked No. 30 in the latest ITA singles rankings, Ekstrand is the fifth-highest ranked freshman in the country.
Ahn, an NCAA Singles Championship qualifier in the fall, has been just as good during the spring. Playing exclusively at No. 2, the freshman is 11-4 in duals, including 9-2 since the calendar flipped to February. She is 11-2 against ACC opponents this season and 7-5 against ranked foes (including fall). Her first career clincher came in three sets against No. 85 Sophie Llewellyn and delivered the Cardinal a 4-3 win over then-No. 25 SMU in the third round of the ACC Championship last week.
Stanford will learn its draw for the NCAA team tournament on Monday, April 27 at 1:30 p.m. PT on NCAA.com's selection show.
