STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford swept its way to victory, opening the Arrillaga Tennis Center with a 4-0 win over visiting Virginia Tech on Friday afternoon.
The match was the Cardinal’s first played in the new facility, a two-year project that includes 12 outdoor courts with a seating capacity of 1,005, a spectator capacity of 1,500, and over 12,410 square feet of team space. A ceremony dedicating the center and ceremonial ribbon cutting took place after the match, preceding the men’s dual against Wake Forest.
On the courts, it was Sein Myoung at No. 5 singles who clinched for Stanford for the third time this season, beating Alston Myatt 6-1, 6-1. Monika Ekstrand finished first on the top court, a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Ozlem Uslu, and Alyssa Ahn beat Arina Gamretkaia on court two, 6-1, 6-1. Caroline Driscoll, Tianmei Wang and Morgan Shaffer were all leading in their matches when Myoung ended it.
Stanford also won the doubles point behind victories from Ekstrand and Wang at No. 2 and Valerie Glozman and Myoung at No. 3.
The Cardinal is back in action on Sunday when it hosts No. 9 Virginia at 3 p.m. Seniors Caroline Driscoll and Emma Sun will be honored in a post-match ceremony.
