Ava Arceri ties career-high with six goals as Stanford drop Cardinals on Senior Day

STANFORD, Calif. — No. 10/9 Stanford bounced back in a big way on Saturday as 10 different Cardinal recorded a goal while the Stanford defense clinched a fourth-quarter shutout as the Cardinal clinched its seventh Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) win, dispatching Louisville from Cagan Stadium, 22-5.

Ava Arceri tied her career-high with six goals on the day, achieving the feat for the first time since scoring six goals in the win over Cal (4/18/15). Martha Oakey also had a strong outing securing a career-high five assists. In cage, Ella Morton picked up her second win of the campaign, earning six saves on 16 shots faced while aiding the Cardinal defense to a 21:52 shutout streak to end the game.

It was a strong, opening-quarter scoring spree that pushed Stanford (11-2, 7-1 ACC) into the driver's seat early. Fifth-year senior Jordyn Case slotted home the first two Cardinal tallies before an Ava Arceri tally put Stanford up by three only 10 minutes into the contest. Stanford continued the onslaught Rylee Bouvier securing a goal on senior day before a pair of power-play tallies from Elise Murphy and Arceri saw the Cardinal lead balloon to six. Louisville (6-7, 2-6 ACC), though, tallied twice in the final four minutes of the frame to stop the Stanford onslaught as the Cardinal led 6-2 through the first.

Stanford, though, stormed out in the second quarter, jumping on top by nine goals thanks to a 5-0 run to begin the frame. Arceri started the spree with her hat trick tally before Aliya Polisky and Lindsey Devir scored on the power-play in the first four minutes of the quarter. Annabel Frist tabbed a free-position tally before Devir doubled her account off a feed from Bouvier to put the Cardinal ahead, 11-2. Though Louisville had an answer to the Devir tally, Polisky and Arceri - who snagged her fourth goal of the game - negated the late strike to give Stanford a 10-goal cushion into the halftime break.

Stanford, though, had some trouble beginning the second half, striking once in the third quarter with bookend Louisville tallies as the Cardinals looked to try and stop the Stanford offense. However, The Cardinal came alive in the fourth, tallying eight goals in the final frame to put the game out of reach. Stanford found twine five times in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter as Martha Oakey picked up a hat trick of assists, serving feeds to Lexi Rodell and Annabel Frist following Arceri’s quarter-opening tally to put the Cardinal up, 18-5.

With the game out of reach, the Cardinal continued to find open looks as Rodell earned her second hat trick of the season, scoring with under seven left to play. The Stanford special teams offense took the stage to end the game with Case scoring shorthanded before Arceri’s career-high sixth tally came via a power-play. Peep Williams became the 10th different goalscorer on the afternoon, tallying her lone goal of the day in the final minute as the Cardinal secured a senior day win with the 22-5 decision.

Stanford is back in action this week, heading out to North Carolina and taking on defending national champions, No. 2 North Carolina on Friday, April 10. Opening draw from Chapel Hill, N.C. is slated for 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT.
