STANFORD, Calif. – For the fourth time this season, Cardinal sailing claimed a PCCSC title. Stanford went a perfect 14-0 at the PCCSC Open Team Race Championship, one of two wins on the weekend. The Card also took first at the Tulane Women’s Team Race.
“This event is a must win, and the competition in conference is strong presently,” said head coach Chris Klevan. “It’s amazing we have the depth to go undefeated at a conference championship while the starters are getting much needed reps at the nationals venue.”
Stanford’s contingent featured Dylan Sih, Shay Wood, Ashtyn Tierney, Alexandra Jones, Lucas Woodworth, Amiya Stroumza, Freddie Parkin, Thomas Whidden and Caroline Geiger.
The Cardinal took all three top spots in four different races, adding the open team race title to the season’s other PCCSC victories in match race, women’s and open fall competitions.
Meanwhile, Stanford went undefeated at another competition. The Card sent Alice Schmid, Avery Baldwin, Ellie Harned, Kate Myles, Samara Walshe and Kit Harned east for the Tulane Women’s Team Race, going 15-0 to take the win.
“Any time spent at the Nationals venue is time well spent,” said assistant coach Shawn Harvey. “Our team adjusted to the uniquely choppy waters of Lake Pontchartrain and looked speedy.”
The 15-0 weekend pushed the Card well clear of second-place Charleston, who finished 7-8 in the four-team competition.
On the horizon for Stanford is two more PCCSC championship opportunities. The Card will head to Washington for the conference women’s team race and fleet race championships next weekend, also sending a delegation to the Thompson Trophy Open Team Race.
