STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford track & field capped off the 2026 regular season at its home track on Friday evening, hosting the 30th edition of the Payton Jordan Invitational at Cobb Track & Angell Field.
A pair of Cardinal throwers got things going early in the meet, beginning with Abbey Moody, who set a season-best mark of 43.60 meters to claim the women’s javelin title. Brandy Atuatasi led a strong Stanford contingent in the discus, setting a 53.40m mark to win the event in her final meet at Cobb Track & Angell Field.
Three Cardinal placed in the top four in the discus, with Julia Lemmon (50.67m) and Emma Sralla (49.79m) finishing third and fourth. Lemmon also added a runner-up finish in the shot put at 14.84 meters.
Tess Stapleton also shined in the final home race of her career, winning the 400m hurdles in 57.62 to lead a 1-2 finish alongside Diane Richard (58.64). Stapleton’s time was just two-hundredths of a second off the meet record, set by Cardinal alum Kori Carter in 2012.
The women’s 800 meters saw a pair of Cardinal athletes lead their respective sections. Riley Stewart crossed the line first in section 4 with a 2:08.31, while freshman Clemmie Lilley followed with a race-winning time of 2:08.04 to pace section 3.
Hanne Thomsen was also victorious in the second section of the women’s 5000m, clocking 15:54.02 for the best performance of her freshman campaign. Teammate Zofia Dudek came in second at 15:56.90 to give Stanford a 1-2 finish in the race, while Sophia Kennedy added a 15:46.81 effort in the feature section.
The Stanford sprint group of Sage Hinton, Hannah Rutherford, and Cate Peters tallied 2-3-4 finishes in both the women’s 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Hinton led the trio in both events, clocking season-bests of 24.15 in the 200m and 54.99 in the 400m.
Ryce Reynolds turned in a season-best double on the men’s side, finished third in the 200m (21.40) and second in the 400m (46.93). Zachary Ryan finished just behind in the 400m with a third-place time of 46.98, his best time of 2026.
Friday’s meet also saw two Payton Jordan records go down, as Nairobi Smith (California) set a new women’s 200m mark of 23.40, while UC Santa Barbara’s Matthew Staples set the new men’s record with a 20.90 performance. Washington State’s Rosemary Longisa clocked a 2:00.27 in the feature heat of the women’s 800m, good for the second-fastest time in meet history.
Stanford now turns its attention to the postseason, beginning with the ACC Championships on May 14-16 in Louisville, Ky.
