COLUMBUS, Ohio — Dean Greyserman’s bounce-back second round kept No. 14 Stanford men’s golf above the cut at the NCAA Columbus Regional as the Cardinal wrapped up the second round of action from the OSU Golf Club on Tuesday. Stanford, which shot 7-over on Tuesday, slots third overall at 13-over and ranks eight strokes above the top five cut line heading into Wednesday’s final round.
Greyserman led the Cardinal with his even-par outing on Tuesday as the senior avenged Monday's 6-over outing with a near-perfect round of golf. Greyserman, who had a 4-over back-nine on Monday, started from hole 10 with a purpose on Tuesday, rifling two birdies through his first nine holes as he hit the turn at 1-under. The senior then held serve following a setback on hole three, hitting par on his final six holes to remain at even-par for the day and rise up the leaderboard into the top 30. Greyserman slots in a tie for 27th overall at 6-over.
Serving as Stanford’s leader heading into Tuesday, Nathan Wang had a solid outing as well, turning in a 2-over card after some late trouble. Wang started on the front foot on Tuesday, earning a birdie on his first hole before slotting home one more on the back-nine to head into the turn at even-par. Wang then countered a bogey on hole six with his third birdie of the day on hole seven before a double-bogey on his final hole of the day forced him into the 2-over, 73 card. Wang still remains in contention for the regional title as he sits tied for 10th overall and four shots back of the individual lead.
Ethan Gao and Jay Leng also turned in strong performances as Gao moved into the top 20 with a 2-over outing on Tuesday. Gao, who entered the turn from the back-nine at even par following a birdie on hole 12, led the team through the halfway mark of the front-nine with birdies on holes one and four. However, some late round trouble caught up with him as the junior turned in the 2-over card as he ranks tied for 20th after moving up 10 spots on Tuesday.
Leng, however, turned in a 3-over card on Tuesday after battling through a tough back-nine stretch that saw him hit the turn at 2-over. Leng secured a birdie on his first hole of the day before sandwiching one on hole 16 on his way to the turn. The sophomore secured one more birdie on the afternoon, hitting a three on the par-four hole seven as he ended the day inside the top 20 and tied for 15th overall at 4-over.
Slotting in as Stanford’s reserve score, Edan Cui also golfed well as he racked up two birdies during Tuesday’s second round. The freshman, competing in his first NCAA Championships, slots tied for 54th overall heading into Wednesday’s final round.
Stanford is back in action on Wednesday, May 20, for the final round of the NCAA Columbus Regional. Stanford tees off from the first tee in the first wave at 7:30 a.m. ET / 4:30 a.m. PT.
