Four Cardinal to ITA All-American Championships

First qualification opportunity for the NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships in November

  • Stanford women's tennis opens the 2026-27 campaign with its first tournament of the fall at next week’s ITA Women’s All-American Championships in Cary, North Carolina.
  • Four Cardinal student-athletes will be in action at Cary Tennis Park, also the site of the 2027 ACC Tennis Championships, to begin their qualification push for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.
    • Ten singles players will qualify, eight main draw quarterfinalists and two feed-in consolation finalists. Five doubles teams will qualify, four main draw semifinalists and the consolation champion.
  • Sophomores Monika Ekstrand and Alyssa Ahn will participate in main draw singles, while sophomore Tianmei Wang and freshman Katerina Shabashkevich are slated to begin in the qualifying round. Ahn and Wang, who finished last season ranked No. 74 in doubles, are in doubles qualifying.
    • Qualifying takes place next Monday and Tuesday, September 21 and 22, with main-draw competition starting on Wednesday, September 23.
  • The Cardinal enters the fall with six ranked singles players in Valerie Glozman (No. 18), Monika Ekstrand (No. 19), Alyssa Ahn (No. 29), Alexis Blokhina (No. 87), Tianmei Wang (No. 119) and Katerina Shabashkevich (No. 123). In doubles, Blokhina and Glozman are No. 21 and Ahn and Wang are No. 81.
  • Valerie Glozman won the ITA All-American Championship last September, beating Carmen Herea of Texas in the final, 6-2, 6-3.
    • She became the first champion from Stanford since Hilary Barte in 2010 and the fourth all-time, joining Patty Fendick (1987), Sandra Birch (1989, 1990) and Barte.
    • Her victory also edged the Cardinal in front of Florida for the most ITA All-American women's singles titles of all time with five.
  • The Cardinal has also collected a record seven ITA All-American doubles crowns: Mallory Burdette/Nicole Gibbs (2011), Hilary Barte/Mallory Burdette (2010), Lauren Kalvaria/Gabriela Lastra (2000), Marissa Irvin/Teryn Ashley (1998), Heather Willens/Laxmi Poruri (1992), Sandra Birch/Debbie Graham (1990) and Meredith McGrath/Teri Whitlinger (1989).
  • Stanford is in its third season under Paul A. Violich Director of Women’s Tennis Frankie Brennan, who is 31-20 as head coach.
    • Since joining the staff in 1996, Brennan has enhanced Stanford's reputation as the country's top program by helping guide the Cardinal to a 731-91 overall record, 12 NCAA championships, 21 conference regular-season titles and six conference tournament crowns. During his tenure, Brennan has mentored 39 All-Americans.
