STANFORD, Calif. – Sophomore Alyssa Ahn secured her spot at next month’s NCAA Singles Championship with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Washington’s Jermine Sherif in the semifinals at ITA Northwest Regionals on Monday afternoon.
Stanford was hosting the regional tournament for the first time since 2023, from which the two singles finalists and doubles champion qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships from November 17-22 in Athens, Georgia. Anna-Marie Weissheim from Washington was the other singles finalist, and with both her and Ahn already earning NCAA spots, the Northwest Regional final will not be played tomorrow.
Ahn, who won last year’s singles title at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships and was seeded second this go-around, reeled off five wins over four days to claim her NCAA berth, all in straight sets.
Another sophomore, Tianmei Wang, advanced to the quarterfinals in singles, and freshmen Katerina Shabashkevich and Kaia Giribalan made the Round of 16.
In doubles, Giribalan and Wang made the quarterfinals, as did Ahn and Monika Ekstrand.
The final NCAA qualification chances come early next month at the ITA West Sectional Championships and ITA Conference Masters, which both run from November 5-8.
