Strong Start for Stanford, Revuelta

Eight Stanford golfers at par or better

STANFORD, Calif. — The first round of the Stanford Intercollegiate, hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice, went to the Stanford Cardinal. The tournament hosts were on from their first tee to the last, with five in the lineup and four individuals all finding ways to shine during the opening 18 holes of the tournament.

It hasn’t been a typical start to the season for the Cardinal, who only shot under par in one of its first six stroke-play rounds this year. Whatever woes the team had were solved on Friday, with Stanford shooting a 271 as a group, 13 strokes under par. Just three teams finished under par on Friday, with Virginia trailing Stanford by five strokes. USC is 12 strokes back of Stanford.

Eight of the nine Stanford golfers in the field were at par or better for Stanford, but nobody was better than Andrea Revuelta. She is the clubhouse leader after the first round with a 65, finishing six strokes under par. Her day began with three birdies on the first four holes and was clean on the back nine, adding four birdies to her total, finishing with eight on the day. Par 5s were a strength, as three of her birdies came on par 5s, knocking down birdie putts on 75% of the par 5s on the course.

Revuelta won the last time Stanford competed on their home course. She won the 2026 NCAA Stanford Regional, her second career NCAA Regional win.

For most of the day, it was a battle between Revuelta and Meja Örtengren for the top spot on the leaderboard. She was three strokes under par through her first six holes and opened her back nine with consecutive birdies. A final birdie putt on nine closed her round at 67 (-4), settling for a two-stroke deficit behind her teammate for the top honors. Örtengren continues to pick up where she left off in the two previous tournaments, as she is the only Cardinal to finish in the top five in both tournaments this year. She currently holds a share of third.

Anna Song put together a great back nine to get herself back into the top ten, finishing in a share of ninth overall with a 69 (-2). She was even on the front nine with three birdies and three bogeys, but eliminated those squares on the scorecard and traded them in for nothing but circles. She birdied twice on the back nine (holes four and six) to vault herself into contention. It’s her best round of the season and her third round in the 60s in her collegiate career.

Behind Song, four Cardinal finished with 70s, all shooting one-under on Friday. Nikki Oh is one of those four, a counting score for the Stanford lineup. She saved her round late in the day, after spending most of it one stroke over par. She birdied on holes six and seven to swing to the right side of par, and finished with a 70 and a tie for 14th overall.

Nora Sundberg, Leigh Chien, and Kaila Elsayegh all shot 70s as well, scoring as individuals for Stanford. Their rounds were drastically different. Sundberg had four birdies and three bogeys. Chien had one of the six eagles on the day and added three birdies, but had four bogeys. Elsayegh was clean; she only had one birdie, but she did not have a hole over par.

The second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate begins at 7:30 a.m., with the individuals for Stanford teeing off before the rest of the team follows at 8:25 a.m.
