Men’s Basketball Completes Preseason at Oregon

Olajuwon led the Cardinal with 16 points and nine rebounds

EUGENE, Ore. – Taking on a familiar foe from the old Pac-12 Conference, Stanford men’s basketball closed its exhibition slate with an 85-57 defeat at Oregon. The Cardinal’s regular season begins on Nov. 2 at home against Eastern Washington.

Aziz Olajuwon led the scoring with 16 points, including five makes from beyond the 3-point arc, to go with nine rebounds. Appearing for the first time in a Stanford uniform, Nick Townsend filled the box score with 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals, while Julius Price was in double figures for the second consecutive exhibition, finishing with 11 points.

The Cardinal got off to a fast start leading by as many as 11 points through 4:31 of action, 15-4. Stanford led by 10, 19-9, with 13:49 remaining in the period, but an extended Oregon run coincided with a cold stretch offensively, and the Cardinal trailed at the intermission, 40-24.

Olajuwon added seven points to his tally in the second half, while Price and Isaiah Rogers scored six apiece.

The preseason is complete for the Cardinal, which opens its regular season with a three-game homestand at Maples Pavilion on Nov. 2.
