STANFORD, Calif. — With two races gone by in the 2026 season, Stanford cross country heads back on the road this weekend, heading to the University of Wisconsin’s Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday, October 9.
The Cardinal women begin the morning in the six-kilometer (3.73 mile) “A” race at 8:30 a.m. PT while the Cardinal men race in the eight-kilometer (4.97 mile) “A” race at 9:10 a.m. at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.

The Cardinal returns to the starting line having taken part in the John McNichols Invitational in mid-September, boasting top finishes on both sides. Julia Flynn claimed her second win of the season as three Cardinal women took podium spots in the 6K Open race en route to a first place team finish. On the men’s side, the Cardinal shocked the field in the 8K Championship, placing fourth overall in one of the most loaded fields of the season as Paul Bergeron led the Cardinal charge with a 24th-place finish.
CARDINAL AT THE NUTTYCOMBE INVITATIONAL
Stanford returns for its yearly pilgrimage to The Badger State having appeared at last season’s Nuttycombe Invitational with Sophia Kennedy taking the top spot for the Cardinal women with a seventh-place finish while Leo Young earned the top-spot for the Cardinal men placing 32nd overall.. The Stanford women grabbed eighth in the team standings while the Cardinal men placed 16th at last season’s regular-season finale.
THE FIELD
Stanford joins a list of 21 ranked teams participating on the men’s side with the Cardinal men ranking 15th in the nation. On the women’s side, the No. 11 Cardinal rank alongside another 18 ranked programs in one of the most stacked fields to date.
