WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Stanford junior first baseman John Gall was named the Pacific 10 Conference's Player of the Week for May 10-16 after leading the Cardinal to the conference title. Gall hit .750 in the clinching series at UCLA last week and nailed three homeruns in Saturday's game. Highly deserving of the honors, during Gall's five-game week the junior batted .667 with three home runs, two doubles, 12 RBI and nine runs scored.

The No. 4 Cardinal claimed the conference title last Sunday by beating UCLA in two of the three games in Westwood, while USC fell to Washington.

Gall, a 1999 Baseball America First Team Preseason All-American, has been more than consistent for Stanford. He currently sports a .364 career batting average-the best in Stanford Baseball history - and broke Stanford's three-year record of 250 hits set by former Cardinal, and current Cincinnati Red, Jeffrey Hammonds (1990-92).

Gall is the second Stanford player to be named Player of the Week this season, with catcher Damien Alvarado earning the honors on March 8th. In addition, Stanford pitchers have been named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week five times this season.

The first baseman is batting .332 this season with 7 home runs and 56 RBI.
