Bank of the West Returns to The Farm

Lindsay Davenport, Venus Williams and Anna Kournikova highlight tournament field.

STANFORD, Calif. -The Bank of the West Tennis Classic begins Monday at Stanford's Taube

Family Tennis Stadium. Defending champion Lindsay Davenport, the world's

top-ranked player after winning Wimbledon earlier this month, leads a

strong field. Venus Williams, Amanda Coetzer and Anna Kournikova are some

of the other highly ranked players competing in the $500,000 Corel WTA tour

event.

Monday's afternoon session begins at 11 a.m. with Jane Chi meeting Fabiola

Zuluaga on court 1 and Meilin Tu meeting Maureen Drake on court 2. Other

matches in the afternoon session on court 1: Tamarine Tanasugarn vs.

Kimberly Po, former Stanford star Anne Kremer vs. Dominique Van Roost and

Kristine Kunce/Anne-Gaelle Sidot vs. Amanda Coetzer/Kimberly Po. On court

2: Stanford sophomore-to-be Gabriela Lastra meets a qualifier and Lisa

Raymond plays Cara Black.

Monday's evening session, beginning at 7:30 p.m., features Irina Spirlea

vs. Chanda Rubin, Amy Frazier vs. Anke Huber and Mirjana Lucic/Larisa

Neiland vs. Lindsay Davenport/Corina Morariu.
