AZUSA, Calif. - Jason Goff resides in ninth place after day one of the Mt. SAC Decathlon Championships at Azusa Pacific College.
Goff tallied 3,304 points after five events. Goff scored 761 points in the 100 meters (11.46), 709 points in the long jump (21-6, 6.55m), 549 points in the shot put (36-3 1/2, 11.06m), 696 points in the high jump (6-2, 1.88m) and 818 points in the 400 meters (49.93).
The final five events will be held friday (110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, 1,500 meters).
Darwin VandeHoef, competing unattached, leads the competition with 4,112 points.
Stanford's John Darcy is competing in the "B" portion of the decathlon championships. Darcy compiled 3,304 points after the first day, good enough for 13th place. Brandon Campbell of Cal State Fullerton leads the competition with 4,037 points.
Darcy tallied 683 points in the 100 meters (11.84), 682 points in the long jump (21-1 1/4, 6.43m), 563 points in the shot put (37-0 1/2, 11.2m), 670 points in the high jump (6-0 3/4, 1.85m), and 706 points in the 400 meters (52.42).
In the women's heptathlon, Stanford's Joy Goff is 21st after day one (100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200 meters). Goff compiled 2,776 points, compared to the first day leader, Chantel Yates of Nevada-Las Vegas with 3,121 points. Goff tallied 738 points in the 100 meter hurdles (15.81), 712 points in the high jump (5-2 1/4, 1.58m), 564 points in the shot put (34-6 3/4, 10.53m) and 762 points in the 200 meters (26.41).
The final three events of the women's heptathlon (long jump, javelin, 800 meters) will be contested on Friday.
