TOP-RANKED STANFORD AIMS TO FINISH REGULAR SEASON UNDEFEATED: The top-ranked and 2000 Pac-10 Champion Stanford men's tennis team (20-0 overall, 7-0 Pac-10) looks to go into the postseason undefeated when it takes on three top 20 opponents this week ... The Cardinal opens the final week of the regular season with a crucial home match against West Coast Conference champion and fourth-ranked Pepperdine (22-1) on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium in "The Stanford Spring Smash" presented by Zoom Marketing ... Stanford then travels to Los Angeles this weekend for non-conference matches against No. 18 USC (15-7, 5-2) on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Marks Stadium and No. 2 UCLA (19-3, 6-1) on Saturday at noon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center ... The Cardinal is 2-0 against the Bruins this season, winning 4-3 in the National Team Indoor Finals on Feb. 27 in Louisville and 4-3 in Pac-10 action on Apr. 7 on The Farm ... Stanford also defeated the Trojans 5-2 in Pac-10 play on Apr. 8 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium ... With three wins this week, Stanford can post its third undefeated regular season in the last six years ... The Cardinal went 23-0 in 1995 and 24-0 in 1998.

CARDINAL CLINCHES PAC-10 TITLE: Stanford won its third straight Pac-10 title and 17th in school history with a 5-2 win at No. 71 Arizona on Saturday ... The Cardinal finished Pac-10 play a perfect 7-0 to win the conference title by one game over UCLA and two games over USC ... In those seven matches, Stanford outscored its opponents 35-14 ... The Cardinal won the '98 conference title with a 12-0 mark, and tied with UCLA for the crown at 6-1 last season ... Stanford also won Pac-10 titles in 1928, '29, '31, '33 (co-champion w/Cal), '35, '42 (Southern Division), '72, '74, '78 (Southern Division), '79 (Southern Division), '80 (co-Southern Division w/USC), '83 (Southern Division), '88 (Southern Division) and '95 (co-Southern Division w/USC) ... The 2000 Pac-10 Individual Championships will be held Apr. 27-30 in Ojai, California.

THE RANKINGS: Stanford is back at No. 1 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings for the second time this year, following the home wins over UCLA and USC two weeks ago ... The Cardinal previously held the No. 1 spot from Mar. 1-15, but dropped to No. 3 on Mar. 22 behind UCLA and Florida and No. 4 behind Pepperdine on Apr. 5 before jumping back to No. 1 on Apr. 12 ... In the individual rankings, Stanford once again has four of the top 100 singles players in the nation ... Junior Alex Kim (32-5 overall, 16-3 duals) leads the way at No. 3, followed by senior Geoff Abrams (34-6, 17-2) at No. 12, sophomore K.J. Hippensteel (10-3, 4-2) at No. 13 and junior Scotty Scott (16-6, 14-5) at No. 94 ... On the doubles side, Abrams and Kim (31-4, 16-2) remained at No. 1 for the fifth consecutive month, while Hippensteel and freshman David Martin (12-4, 6-3) reentered the top 50 at No. 21.
