Stanford, Calif. - Freshman middle blocker Curt Toppel (PacificPalisades, CA/Malibu HS) earned Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men'sVolleyball Freshman of the Year and First Team All-MPSF honors for hisaccomplishments during the 2000 season.
In his rookie campaign, Toppel set a new American VolleyballCoaches Association record for kills in a game by leading the nation withan 8.65 kills per game average. The mark surpassed the Stanfordsingle-season record of 7.52 set by David Goss in 1992.
Toppel posted 11matches with 30 or more kills, including one of only two 50 killperformances in the nation this season. Toppel played in 20 matches and 72games totaling 623 kills on 1,201 total attacks for a .352 hittingpercentage.
Toppel twice earned MPSF Player of the Week honors, while the AVCArecognized him as National Player of the Week on April 4.
