Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford varsity women's crew team lost to No. 16 Washington State and to the University of Kansas on Saturday at Redwood Shores. Washington State defeated Stanford by seven seconds in the morning session, while the Jayhawks handed the Cardinal a 3.5-second loss in the afternoon. Stanford held a slight lead over Kansas through 1000 meters, but the Jayhawks built and held their three-plus second margin of victory over the final 1000 meters.
The Cardinal women's varsity races were two of 23 women's dual-races hosted by Stanford University at Redwood Shores. The two-day rowing event concludes on Sunday. Other schools participating, include: No. 9 USC, No. 15 Oregon State, No. 21 Sacramento State, 23rd-ranked San Diego State University, No. 28 Texas, and UC Davis, the top ranked crew in NCAA Division II. Stanford will race No. 5 California and the University of Texas on Sunday.
