EUGENE, Ore. - Julie Tinker tallied 3,085 points and resides in secondplace after the first day of competition on Saturday at the Pacific-10Heptathlon Championships at the University of Oregon.
Tinker, who placed second at the conference meet two years ago butredshirted ast year, is 160 points behind first day leader Missy Vanekof California.
Stanford's Joy Goff is in fifth place among ten competitors with2,879 points.
Four events (100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200 meters) wereheld on Saturday. The final three events (long jump, javelin, 800meters) will be held Sunday at Hayward Field.
Tinker scored 861 points in the 200 meters (25.28), 855 points in thehigh jump (5-7), 815 points in the 100 meter hurdles (15.20) and 554points in the shot put (34-0 3/4).
Goff scored 755 points in the day's first event, the 100 meterhurdles (15.67), 747 points in the high jump (5-3 1/4), 719 points inthe 200 meters (26.91) and 658 points in the shot put (39-3).
In the conference decathlon competition, a sore back preventedfreshman school record holder Jason Goff from competing for Stanford.Jason, the brother of Joy Goff, had tallied 7,007 points earlier thisyear to qualify for the Pac-10 meet.
