Rancho Cordova, Calif. - The Stanford men's varsity eight placed fourth at the Pac-10 Championships on Sunday at Lake Natoma. Stanford crossed the finish line with a time of 5:53.5, but finished behind California (5:35.3), Washington (5:40.7), and Oregon State (5:46.3). The race seedings held to form in the grand final as No.1 Cal, No. 2 Washington, No. 3 Oregon State, and No. 4 Stanford raced in those positions down the entire 2000-meter course. Stanford reached the grand final by finishing second to Oregon State in its preliminary heat on Sunday morning.
The Stanford women's varsity eight finished ninth overall after placing third in the petite final with a time of 6:56.2 seconds. UC Davis and the University of San Diego crossed the finish line ahead of the Cardinal. Stanford missed advancing to the grand final after finishing behind USC and Oregon State in the morning heats.
In other Stanford action, the men's junior varsity and novice eights advanced to the grand final where they placed fourth and sixth respectively. The women's junior varsity eight finished second in the petite final for an overall eighth-place showing. Stanford's women's novice eight was third in the third final.
The Stanford men's varsity eight will race Temple on Saturday, May 20 at Redwood Shores. Racing is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
