Stanford men's soccer announced six signees for the 2000 season. Michael Wilson, Matt Janusz, Aaron Maines, Clayton Peters, Robby Fulton and Todd Leber will join the men's soccer team in the fall.
Michael Wilson, a lefty who can play both the flanks and the midfield, comes to Stanford from Wellington, New Zealand. He has played on the New Zealand under-17 and under-20 national teams, and currently plays for his club team, Western Suburbs, in the New Zealand regional league. After graduating from high school in 1998, Wilson took a post graduate year in France where he took classes while playing and training with the local Division III French league team.
Matt Janusz, a native of Littleton, Colorado, was named the 1999 Colorado High School Player of the Year. He has been a prominent scorer both for Dakota Ridge HS and for the Rush club team. He follows in the footsteps of Cardinal midfielder Todd Dunivant, who is also a Dakota Ridge HS and Rush alum. Janusz is a state and regional Olympic Development Program (ODP) player, and his speed and finishing ability will add strength to the Stanford attack.
Aaron Maines will join former Falmouth High School and Maine Coast United club teammate Roger Levesque as the second player on the Stanford roster from Falmouth, Maine. A state and regional ODP player, Maines will add depth to the Cardinal midfield.
Clayton Peters, from St. Louis, Missouri, was spotted by coach Clark while playing in the Elite Soccer Program (ESP) for the top 150 high school players last summer. A left-side defender, Peters played for Chaminade Prep and for the nationally renown Scott Gallagher Club.
Robby Fulton, a goalkeeper from West Linn, Oregon, has been a regular at the Stanford Centres of Excellence. Despite an ACL injury, sustained while playing for his club team, the Portland Timbers, Fulton has made a full recovery. He has a good presence, and is technically sound in the net.
Todd Leber will join his older brother Scott on the Stanford roster. One of the top midfielders in Arizona, Leber is also the class president at Salpointe HS. He has played state and regional level ODP and is currently playing club soccer for Tucson United.
Head coach Bobby Clark said, "We have got another very exciting class which will continue to provide depth to our current squad."
