ATHENS, Ga. - Stanford men's tennis head coach Dick Gould has been named the Wilson/ITA National Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association today after his team captured the 2000 NCAA title yesterday at the University of Georgia. This is the fourth time that Gould has been honored as national coach of the year, also winning the award in 1974, '94 and '98.
Gould captured his 17th NCAA title as Stanford coach in last night's 4-0 win over Virginia Commonwealth. In its run for the NCAA title, the Cardinal outscored its opponents 24-1 in six NCAA Tournament matches. Stanford finished the season with a 28-1 mark and won its third consecutive Pac-10 title with a 7-0 record. The Cardinal also won the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor championship in February.
