Irvin, Granville Advance Into Semifinals of the NCAA Singles Tournament

Malibu, Calif. -- Sophomore Marissa Irvin and freshman Laura Granville both advanced to the semifinals of the of the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championships in Malibu, Calif. today.

Irvin defeated 19th-ranked Chin Bee Khoo of Arkansas 7-5, 6-3 in the third round, before taking out 68th-ranked Andrea Ondrisova of VCU 6-1, 6-4. As for Granville, she defeated defending national singles champion and seventh-ranked Zuzana Lesenarova of San Diego 6-0, 4-6, 6-3, before defeating 17th-ranked Jewel Peterson of USC 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals.

In the semifinals, Irvin will face 29th-ranked Katarina Malec of UNLV, while Granville faces off with fifth-ranked Aarthi Venkatesan of Georgia. Semifinal matches are scheduled for noon.

In the doubles quarterfinals, Irvin and partner Teryn Ashley fell to sixth-ranked Paola Palencia and Ipek Senoglu of Pepperdine 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, while Granville and sophomore Keiko Tokuda fell to 17th-ranked Martina Ondrejkova and Iva Puflerova of South Alabama 6-2, 6-3.
