Stanford, Calif. - Stanford University's Sunken Diamond has been chosen as a host site for an NCAA Division I Baseball Super Regional this Friday-Sunday, June 2-4. The Cardinal (45-14) will host Nebraska (50-15) in a best two-of-three series with the winner advancing to the 54th annual NCAA College World Series from June 9-17 in Omaha, Nebraska.
Friday night's opening Super Regional game begins at 7:00 p.m. Contests on Saturday and Sunday (if necessary) will both have 1:00 p.m. start times.
NCAA Super Regionals will take place at eight sites this weekend. Here is the complete list of Super Regional sites (campus sites unless noted): Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Houston, LSU, South Carolina, Stanford and Texas.
Stanford qualified for an NCAA Super Regional, its second in as many years, by winning an NCAA Regional held at Stanford last Friday-Sunday. Stanford swept its first two games versus Fresno State on Friday and Alabama on Saturday. The Cardinal headed into Sunday's championship game needing to beat Alabama in just one of two possible title games. The Crimson Tide had worked its way back to the Regional championship game with a win over Nevada on Saturday night after its loss to Stanford.
Alabama knocked off the Cardinal, 14-9, in Sunday's first championship game before Stanford rallied for a 16-6 victory in the nightcap to win its 10th NCAA Regional title. Stanford's Joe Borchard was named the Regionals Most Outstanding Player.
Nebraska swept through its NCAA Regional with victories over Butler, Minnesota and Wichita State.
Stanford (45-14) enters this weekend's Super Regional ranked #3 in the nation and is the #8 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Nebraska is ranked #8 in the nation and has a 50-15 overall record. The Cornhuskers are not a national seed in the NCAA Tournament.
