This Week: The fifth-ranked Stanford Cardinal women's golf team prepares for the 2001 Pac-10 Championships, Monday, April 23 through Wednesday, April 25 in Tempe, Arizona at the Karsten Golf Course. All ten conference teams will compete (Arizona, Arizona State, California, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington and Washington State). Teams will play 18 holes each day with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. Eight of the 10 Pac-10 teams are ranked in the top 50 while 21 individuals are ranked in the top 100.
Last Year At The Pac-10 Championships: The Cardinal tied for second at the 2000 conference championships, carding a three-day total of 901 (302-302-297). Kim Rowton was the top Stanford finisher, tying for sixth individually with a 222. Stephanie Keever tied for 14th while teammate Hilary Homeyer tied for 17th. Arizona claimed top honors with an 883. USC's Candie Kung took top medalist honors turning in a 218 for the championships.

Keever Finishes Second At Peg Barnard Collegiate: Senior Stephanie Keever (Las Vegas, Nev./Cimarron-Memorial) turned in another solid performance this week with a tie for second at the Peg Barnard Collegiate (75-72--147). She has participated in nine events for the Cardinal this season, averaging a team-leading 73.5 stroke average. She has five top 10 finishes in eight tournaments (six top 20 finishes) and is ranked ninth individually in the most recent MasterCard Collegiate Poll. Keever has two individual wins this season (PING/ASU Invite and Edean Ihlanfeldt Invite).
Homeyer Cards Third Consecutive Top 10 Finish: Senior Hilary Homeyer (Edina, Minn./Edina) tied for seventh at the Peg Barnard Collegiate over the weekend (74-76--150) to notch her third consecutive top 10 finish. It also marks her seventh top 20 finish this season in eight outings for the Cardinal. Homeyer's stroke average of 74.2 is the second lowest on the squad. Ranked 16th in the latest MasterCard Collegiate Golf poll, she has finished in the top 30 individually in every tournament this season.
Rho Ties For Fifth At Peg Barnard For Third Top 10 Finish: Freshman Angela Rho (Fullerton, Calif./Sonoma) shot a 149 over two rounds at the Peg Barnard Collegiate to tie for fifth last weekend. Rho now has six top 20 finishes in eight tournaments this season and has placed in the top 40 in every tourney this season. She is third on the squad with a 74.6 stroke average and has shot eight par or under par rounds this year. She is currently ranked 19th in the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings.
Rowton and Kouwabunpat Tie For 12th At Peg Barnard: Sophomore Kim Rowton (San Antonio, Tx./Churchill) and freshman Kim Kouwabunpat (Upland, Calif./Upland) tied for 12th at the Peg Barnard Collegiate over the weekend. It is the second consecutive top 15 finish for Rowton. Kouwabunpat is fourth on the squad with a 76.2 stroke average and has three top 25 finishes this season. Rowton also has three top 25 finishes as well as a 77.4 stroke average on the links.
Last Time Out: The fifth-ranked Stanford women's golf team tallied its first tournament win of the season with a first-place showing at the Peg Barnard Collegiate. The Cardinal shot a two-day total of 595 to take top honors. Stephanie Keever tied for second as Stanford's top individual finisher. Freshman Angela Rho tied for fifth while senior Hilary Homeyer tied for seventh. Cardinal's Kim Rowton and Kim Kouwabunpat tied for 12th to give Stanford five players in the top 20. Marcia Wallis, competing as an individual, tied for 25th while teammate Jessica Belskis, also competing as an individual, placed 57th.
Did You Know: As a team, Stanford has finished in the top 10 in their last 30 tournaments ... they have finished in the top five in 10 out of the last 12 tourneys ... as a team, the Cardinal are averaging 297.1 strokes per event ... Stanford has five golfers ranked in the top 100 nationally ... Stanford has finished in the top 3 at the Pac-10 Championships six of the last 10 years and has finished out of the top five only once during that same time.
1999-2000 Season In Review: The Cardinal placed second at the 2000 NCAA Championships held in Sunriver, Oregon to post their best finish in school history. Stanford shot a four-round total of 1,196, trailing national champion Arizona by 24 strokes. Stephanie Keever tied for fifth individually carding a 295 for the tournament. Hilary Homeyer tallied a 298 for 13th place and Kim Rowton placed 18th with a 299. Stanford competed in 12 events in 1999-2000, recording seven top 5 finishes and 12 top 10 finishes. Individually, Stephanie Keever finished the season ranked 12th nationally while Hilary Homeyer checked in at 25th. Both Keever and Homeyer were All-Pac-10 second team selections as well as All-America honorees.
In The Rankings: Stanford checks in ranked sixth in the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Poll and fifth in the GolfWeek/Sagarin College Poll. Individually, Stephanie Keever is ranked ninth overall, Hilary Homeyer is 16th, Angela Rho is 18th, Kim Kouwabunpat is 73rd and Kim Rowton is 88th.

Coach O'Conner: Head coach Caroline O'Connor is in her sixth season at the helm of the Stanford women's golf program after leading the Cardinal to its best ever finish at the NCAA Championships last season (second place). Under O'Connor's tutelage, Stanford has finished in the top 10 nationally for the past six years and captured its first conference title in 1999. O'Connor is only the second coach in the 21 year history of the women's program.
