Stanford, Calif. - On Saturday April 21 Stanford faced Oregon State at the Stanford Invitational. The racing was very competitive for the varsity and novice eights. Stanford looked to capture the dual for the first time in the past four years. The varsity eight could not quite hold the Beavers off in the first 1000m but fought back in the second 1000 coming up 4 seconds short in the end. The Novice eight raced their race of the year as they grabbed an early lead and then held a charging OSU off winning the race by just 3 tenth of a second.
On Sunday April 22 the Cardinal faced #18 Texas. This race was very significant for the team as the Longhorns were poised to snatch an at-large bid for the NCAA from the west region after a very successful trip to San Diego Crew Classic. The varsity boat avenged their six second loss in to Texas by racing to an early lead and then managed to hold off the Longhorn charge winning by 1.3 seconds. Stanford leads the Texas/Stanford dual 2-0.
Next up for the Cardinal is fourth-ranked USC in San Pedro on Saturday. Racing begins at 10:00 am.
